While King Tut is a famous Egyptian pharaoh today, he came to fame because of his obscurity during his lifetime. Ironically, because he was such a minor pharaoh (he died at the age of 19) his tomb was not found by tomb robbers in the Valley of the Kings and was still intact when Howard Carter discovered it in 1922.
The Bayon Information Center in Siem Reap, Cambodia has joined as a new Collaborating Organization for International Archaeology Day 2013.
The Legacy: Hands on the Past, Center for Archaeological Research at The University of Texas at San Antonio and Frank H. McClung Museum at the University of Tennessee Knoxville have returned for International Archaeology Day 2013.
