Archaeologist Mary Dudek describes how researchers reconstruct activities and diet of past peoples using the example of the Spectacle Island site, excavated during the Big Dig.  Some 6,000 years ago, Boston was well inland from the ocean, but sea levels rose, inundating the coastal plain around the hills east of Boston. Ancient Native Americans lost no time adapting to the change. Spectacle Island preserved a wonderful record of several thousand years of clam bakes, fishing, and other activities.  Please confirm the event date in the library's online calendar, and check for additional archaeology events planned for November.
