Abstract: Making the Mummies Dance from Space

Lecturer: Sarah Parcak

This talk will detail how the author has used NASA satellite images, spy satellites, and ground survey  to detect hundreds of previously “lost” ancient Egypt cities over the past 8 years.  By using advanced remote sensing techniques, the author’s work has taken her to five separate survey areas all over Egypt, from the Nile Delta, to Middle East, and to West Sinai.  How Egypt’s sites are being threatened by modern development will also be discussed, as well as how the audience can find ancient sites themselves on Google Earth.
