Abstract: Gods, Heroes, Athletes, and Warriors: The Quest for Immortality at Olympia

One of the best-known sites of the ancient world is Olympia, famed for its Panhellenic athletic games, which took place on a four-year cycle. This lecture discusses the large-scale sculpture at Olympia, its themes, placement, and relationship to each other, as well as to the events--political, athletic, and above all, religious--that occurred at the site.
