Ferrycarrig, Ireland: Emily

January 28, 2019

My name is Emily Floyd, I’m from Los Angeles, California and I go to UC Santa Cruz.

I wanted to come study here to gain practical and hands-on experience in archaeology. This specific site intrigued me because I have always been interested in Viking history and have wanted to visit Ireland for a long time. Other than archaeological skills, I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone, travel and experience a professional/school experience outside of the United States.

The best part of the field school has been the home-stay. It has been a comfortable space at the end of long days and travel. The best part of Ireland so far has been the deep local culture and history that can be found at every turn.
