AIA Table a Hit at Archaeology and Earth Science Day at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History
November 10, 2011
On National Archaeology Day, as part of Ohio Archaeology Month and national Earth Science Week, AIA members took part in Archaeology and Earth Science Day at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Participants were able to meet Museum curators and staff; members of Museum-associated societies such as the Cleveland Geological Society and the Micromineral Society; as well as representatives from the Cleveland Archaeological Society and local universities. There were many hands on activities for children and adults including making rubbings of an ancient replica Egyptian relief and a Native American pump drill people could try to drill a piece of wood with. Another activity allowed participants to feel what it was like to be a museum curator by allowing them to try on white curatorial gloves and reassemble broken pottery. Finally, a six foot tall Halloween mummy was decorated with an Indiana Jones field hat along with AIA National Archaeology Day flyers. The AIA table was the hit of Archaeology Day at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History!
