Erika Shofner, archaeologist with SCAPOD, Inc. will have a display of prehistoric-type
stone tools and pottery and will conduct primitive technology demonstrations (flint
knapping, fire making, etc). If there is enough open space (roughly 75 feet in a straight
line), she will also do an atlatl demonstration (an early spear-throwing tool) and let the
visitors try it out at the end of the presentation. She will also be talking a little about the
prehistoric periods of South Carolina. For the kids, she will have one to two tables set up
with paper pot puzzles for them to color and put together. She will also have some
archaeology activity packets with crosswords, word searches, coloring sheets, etc.
