Founders Day Celebration

Monday, The New Smyrna Museum of History is kicking off the Founders Day Celebration with Rick Smith, son of "Patrick Smith", who will be presenting a media intensive show titled "Patrick Smith's Florida - A Land Remembered".
Tuesday through Friday, there will be speakers from the Florida Public Archaeology Network, The Florida Humanities Council and various regional and local Historians and Archaeologists.
Friday evening, the Union and Confederatearmies will be arriving and setting up in Old Fort Park preparing for the shelling of the Sheldon House; the battle that took place here in New Smyrna Beach during the Civil War.
Saturday morning there will be a parade of the families of the original settlers from the Turnbull Colony. Throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, living history performers and various crafts people such as spinning, weaving, blacksmithing, leather work, wood carvers, beekeepers and a whip cracking demonstration from the "Cracker Days" will be in Old Fort Park and Emory Bennett Park.
The antique fire engine "old # 5" will be here from 1 - 4 pm on both days. There will be vendors and concessions, including Minorcan, Greek and Italian food and Lil' Neals BBQ. There will also be music, dancers and other entertainment. Each day will finish with a drawing for many fantastic prizes. A fun weekend for all!
